  1. If your child seems uncomfortable, try to find out what's really happening. You may elicit more information than a nurse or doctor.
  2. Write down the medical team's plan. Ask the staff to repeat anything you find unclear.
  3. Report any changes in your child's appetite, energy, mood or pain levels.
  4. Write down the names and contact numbers for the medical team.

Safe Sleep for Babies

Suffocation is the leading cause of injury deaths among infants in Virginia.

Always put your baby to sleep on the back, not the stomach.

A safety-approved crib with a firm tight-fitting mattress and tight-fitting bottom sheet is the best place for baby to sleep.

Babies placed on adult beds risk suffocation from hidden hazards such as entrapment between bed and wall

        and falls from adult beds

Never put a crib, childbed or furniture near a window.

Do not smoke or let anyone smoke around your baby.

Be sure your baby's head and face stay uncovered while he or she sleeps

See www.vahealth.org/civp for more information.
