Women’s Health

Are you a woman over 40? Have you had your annual mammogram? If not, pick up the phone and talk to your doctor about getting screened for breast cancer.


Clifford did well on the Pap Smear test for Cervical Cancer. 96% of those 18 and over had a PAP smear test. Women age 40 and over: 97% had a PAP SMEAR.

Healthy People 2010 goal is to have 97% of women to have test. KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK!!!

Healthy Women's Screening Guidelines

Type of Test

Explanation

When and How Often

Blood Pressure reading

Measures the pressure in blood vessels. High Blood Pressure means your heart is working too hard

Every 2 years for women over age 21

Bone Mineral Density Test

Specialized equipment measures the density of the spine, hip, wrist or heal to predict fracture risk

Periodic screening may be recommended for post menopausal women over 65 or younger who have risk factors and all women over 65

PAP Test

Lab test that screens for abnormal cells in the cervix.

Done every 1 to 3 years on the advice of your health care professional

Colon Cancer Screening

A fecal occult blood test

Beginning at age 50, women should have an annual fecal occult blood test and a flexible sigmoidoscopy every 5 years

Cholesterol Check

 A blood test that measures lipids (fats) in the blood stream

All women age 20 or older should have a fasting lipoprotein level every 5 years.

Mammogram

Low dose x-ray views of both breasts

One baseline mammogram between the ages of 35 and 40, and annually after age 40
